Gov't Approves Recruitment Of 1,000 Lecturers To Public Universities

Government has approved the recruitment of up to 1,018 Lecturers to fill up spaces in public universities.

The move is aimed at providing public tertiary institutions that are in dire need of faculty to deliver quality teaching and learning at the various institutions.

President John Mahama announced this at the maiden congregation of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho, the Volta Region capital.

The University which started in 2012 with 155 students has graduated 171 students with various degrees in health related programmes such as medical laboratory sciences, dietetics, midwifery, nursing, physician assistantship and public health. The University currently has a population of 2,017. Addressing the congregation, President Mahama expressed the commitment of government to ensure that all public tertiary institutions are supported to deliver on their respective mandates for national development.

 He said all institutions that have sought clearance from the Ministry of Finance can recruit the Lecturers they have requested.

" This is an approval of the full requests that have been made by all universities this country," the President said.

Distinguished personalities such Former first lady Mrs Ernestina Naadu Mills, renowned Ghanaian dentist , Dr Christian Botchway and Prof Samuel Kofi Sefa-Dedeh of the University of Ghana, who was the Chairman of the National Task Force for the establishment of two new universities  were also given Honorary Doctorates.

Prof Sefa-Dedeh, on behalf of the Awardees, thanked the University council and Management for the honour done them and wished that the university continues to honour others who have paid their dues in national development various fields of endeavour.
