Farmers In 4 Communities Declare War On Fulani Herdsmen

Farmers in four communities in the Garadima Electoral Area in the Atebubu-Amantin District of the Brong Ahafo Region have declared war on Fulani nomads destroying their farms.

Farmers from four communities – Hiamankyene, Kwasi Donkor, Mako Kwai and Yerewoho – say they would not sit down for the Fulani nomads to continue to destroy their crops, and have, therefore, declared war against the Fulanis.

The farmers noted that they would fight the Fulanis with all their strength to sack the nomads from the area.

Just last week, two Fulanis attempted to kill the chief of Hiamankyene, Nana Kofi Didi, when he confronted them after they had destroyed his farm with their cattle.

Awudu Samadi, the Assembly Member for the Garadima Electoral Area, told The Finder that the Atebubu-Amantin District Assembly is not helping to bring an end to the illegal activities of the nomads.

Mr Samadi noted that farmers in the area are suffering because of the activities of nomads.

He revealed that most farmers have had their crops destroyed, and noted that after some of the Fulanis are arrested and handed over to the police, nothing is done to them. This, he said, has angered the farmers to declare the war.

"The farmers have declared war on the Fulanis for destroying their crops on their farms. This year the rain has not been good; the farmers were able to grow only few crops but the nomads are destroying them; this has angered the farmers from Hiamankyene, Kwasi Donkor, Mako Kwai and Yerewoho," Mr Awudu revealed.

He also added that the nomads are fully armed, which, he said, makes the situation very dangerous.
