�Drug Lord� Busted

A Koforidua magistrate Court has remanded into prison custody for two weeks, Kwabena Ampah, a suspected ‘Drug Lord’ for attempting to smuggle large quantities of substances suspected to be Indian Hemp, popularly known as ‘wee’ to the Central Region.

 The police in the New Juaben Municipality in the Eastern Region arrested the 46-year-old man for possessing eight compressed slabs of wee and half sack of uncompressed substance suspected to be ‘wee’.

Ampah was arrested last Friday at about 11 am when he was about to transport the substances suspected to be ‘wee’ in a Toyota Hiace van with registration number ER 2412-12 in Koforidua to Moree in the Central Region.

According to the New Juaben Municipal Police Commander, Supt. Richardson Kumekor, the arrest was affected upon police intelligence.

He said during interrogation the suspect explained that the consignment of drugs was given to him by one Akwetey at Obawale near Klo Agogo in the Yilo Krobo District to be given to someone in the Central Region. He was subsequently not consistent with his answer during the interrogation.

Supt. Kumekor stated that the police ar einvestigating the matter to ensrue that possible accomplices are arrested. The suspect is, however, being processed for corut while the exhibit will be sent to the laboratory for testing.

The Police Commander commended efforts of his men led by Chief Inspector Ebenezer Sakyi in assisting to reduce crime in the municipality.

He said crime in the municipality has been reduced as a result of increased effort in intelligence gathering and public education.
