Wa Municipality development budget gets huge boost

The Wa Municipal Assembly has received a District Development Fund allocation of 433,505.04 Ghana Cedis which would be used to fund the construction of school buildings, public toilets and the provision of furniture for schools. Communities that would benefit from the school projects are, Kadoli, Sakafatu, Konjiehi, Tangaju and Wa Model School while Dobile, Wa Women's Training Institute, Konbiehi, Sokpayiri, and Mangu would be provided with the public toilets. Mr. Duogu Yakubu, Municipal Chief Executive, making this known at the Second Ordinary meeting of the Assembly at Wa on Wednesday, added that the Municipality had also been given an amount of 19,683.53 Ghana Cedis for capacity development. The Assembly was getting this boost to its development budget at a time when it realized only 98,175.35 Ghana Cedis as revenue from January to July this year, which was far below the 213,950.00 Ghana Cedis it projected to mobilize during that period. By implication, Mr. Yakubu noted that it would be extremely difficult to meet their revenue target for this year, and therefore urged all those concerned to sit up and do what was expected of them to enable the Assembly to realize the target. He announced that the Assembly was also to benefit from an electricity project, the contract for which had been awarded to an Egyptian company known as P.L. Sewedy Electric Ghana. The Assembly has revived the rural kerosene project that had been abandoned since 2004, and in addition to the 15 tanks located in zonal communities the project would also be expanded to include solar lamps, the MCE added. Mr. Yakubu said the Assembly would engage the services of a Consultant to assess the cost of providing electricity for Saint Francis Xavier Junior Seminary and other schools in the Municipality for consideration by the Minister of Energy.
