The conflict between indigenes of Tafo and the Zongo community there must be curbed to prevent the situation from escalating into a religious conflict, security analyst Nana Owusu Sekyere has advised the police in the Ashanti Region.

To him, if authorities fail to manage the situation, it could become an entrenched religious conflict, which could pose a security challenge to the region and the country.

Mr Sekyere, who was speaking on the Executive Breakfast Show on Wednesday August 3, told host Prince Minkah that: “I do know for a fact that the police are challenged. They may have difficulties in mobilising themselves to deal with a particular situation. Religious conflicts are of a sophisticated nature and very fluid and you need a gamut of intelligence officers and security operatives that are beyond the police, which won’t be so much of a quick fix. They must hasten the process of solving this to bring quick and timely security to the area.”

Over 150 youth from the area, on Tuesday August 2, besieged the chief's palace demanding they be given guns to defend themselves.

According to them, some youth from the Zongo community in the area have been threatening them and trying to spark fresh conflict.

The youth have, therefore, called on Nana Agyen Frimpong II and his elders as well as the security agencies to help resolve the festering disagreement once and for all.

The latest move by the youth was in response to an alleged attack on a man the previous weekend by Zongo people. The victim was treated at a hospital and discharged later.
