Teachers have been asked to show genuine love and passion for the job they are doing to give hope and a better future to the nation’s youth.
Dr. Mrs. Ernestina Fredua-Antoh, acting Council Chairperson of the Jackson Educational Complex (JEC), said they should work hard to assist those they were teaching to become useful to themselves and the society.
She was addressing the fourth graduation ceremony of the college, affiliated to the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), in Kumasi.
A total of 2,171 teacher trainees, graduated after the completion of a three-year Diploma in Basic Education programme.
The college, has since its establishment in year 2009, produced in excess of 5,000 teachers, now serving in various communities across the country.
Its products go through a carefully-structured learner-oriented distance education programme facilitated by state-of-the-art interactive devices and weekend face-to-face sessions.
Dr. Fredua-Antoh encouraged them to focus not only on helping children to achieve academic excellence but good character training as well.
They should become a positive influence on the pupils by setting good examples for them to follow.
She told them that “they should aid them to be disciplined, selfless, adopt positive attitudes and show respect for authority”.
This, she said, was the way they could contribute make meaningful contribution to the nation’s development.
Baffour Osei Hyeaman Brantuo VI, the Mawerehene, applauded the founders’ of the college, for their vision and immeasurable contribution towards deepening the distance education concept.
He advised teachers not to refuse posting to the deprived communities, where their services were most needed.
Mrs. Theodosia Jackson, the Principal, announced plans to build a campus in Juaben in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality to give access to more people to be trained as professional teachers.
