Man Jailed 13 Yrs For Defiling Class One Pupil

A 37-Year-Old corn mill operator, Godwin Akpah has been sentenced to 13 years in prison on his first day in court after he pleaded guilty to defiling a-10-year-old class one pupil (name withheld).

Moments after admitting guilt to the offence, Akpah told the court presided over by Her Honor Mrs. Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku that “I don’t know what came over me.” “I got confused after the act.” Akpah, 36, again told the court that, he was separated from his wife but had an eight-year-old child when asked by the judge if he had a child. He also admitted that the victim could be his daughter.

The details of the case as were presented to the court by Chief Inspector Grace Bandoh were that, the complainant Georgina Hlordzi, 60, is a pensioner and grandmother to the victim aged 10 and that they both live at Kissaman, a suburb of Accra.

According to her, the accused person also resides in the same vicinity with the complainant. And on August 1, 2016 at about 9am, the complainant sent the victim to grind maize at the accused person’s shop.

“Upon seeing the victim, the accused person took advantage and lured the victim into a small room attached to the shop and had sexual intercourse with her on a student mattress. After the act, accused person warned the victim not to inform anybody about the incidents,” she stated.

The accused, she said, after the act ground the maize for the victim but when she got home the complainant observed that the victim’s dressing had been tempered with and asked her to remove her trousers.

“Complainant saw semen in the victim’s trousers and questioned her. It was then she revealed the ordeal she went through with the accused to the complainant. Upon that, complainant took the victim to Achimota School Police Station and lodged a complaint.

“Police medical form was prepared for the complainant to send the victim to the hospital for examination and treatment and victim was medically examined and report submitted on her and the case transferred to Tesano DOVVSU for investigation,” chief Inspector Bandoh stated.

In the cause of investigation, the accused person was arrested and he admitted the offence in his cautioned statement and after instigation the was charged with the offence to appear before court.
