Man, 23, Gets 36 Months For Stealing

A 23-year-old unemployed man has been handed  a 36-month imprisonment in hard labour by the Odumase Krobo Circuit Court for stealing GH¢450 belonging to Abdul Rashid Adam, a butcher.

David Edinba pleaded guilty to the charge and prayed the court to deal leniently with him.

The court, presided over by Mr Frank Yao Gbeddy, ordered the police to hand over the exhibits to the complainant.

The facts presented by ASP Richmond Akwasi Yeboah, the prosecutor, were that Adam was a butcher at Combine, a suburb of Akosombo, while Edinba lived at Atimpoku.

He said around 2 p.m.on July 9, 2016, the complainant went to old Combine area opposite the Total Filling station to collect firewood.

ASP Yeboah said after Adam had gathered the firewood, he left it at a place together with a polythene bag containing his ATM card with its PIN code number, working clothes, motor-cycle key, soap and his utility bill receipt and left to look for a rope to tie the firewood.

He stated that on Adam’s return all the other items, except the firewood, were nowhere to be found.

The prosecutor said within some few minutes after the ATM card got missing,  Adam had a notification message that GH¢100 had been withdrawn from his bank account.

ASP Yeboah said about 30 minutes later on the same day, Adam had another notification message that GH¢200 had   been withdrawn from his account.

He said Adam rushed to the bank premises but he did not find anybody using the ATM and, therefore, reported the incident to the security man on duty.

He said around 9 a.m. the next day, Adam received a third notification that GH¢150.00 had been withdrawn from his  account.

Based on that, Adam quickly rushed to the bank premises where he saw that the security men on duty had arrested Edinba and he was handed over to the police.

He said Edinba admitted the offence and led the police to his room where they retrieved the money he had withdrawn from the ATM.
