We Wont Reverse Anas Award - GJA

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has vowed not to quash the award given to investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas as Overall Best Journalist of the Year 2015 in the just ended GJA awards.

Lawyer for Justice Paul Dery, one of the High Court Judges who were caught allegedly taking bribes in Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ corruption expose’ in Ghana’s judiciary has said the GJA is in contempt of Court for adjudging Anas best journalist of the year for that piece on judges.

Anas in that story captured 34 judges on video allegedly taking bribes to compromise justice.

He was on Saturday crown the Overall Best Journalist of the Year 2015 at the 21st Ghana Journalist Awards (GJA) for that piece. For his prize, Anas took home a brand new Hyundai SUV

President of the Association, Roland Affail Monney in an interview said given the merits of the story being challenged at the Supreme Court by Justice Dery, Anas deserved it.

“Anas sacrificed his life for journalism and deserved it and so I find it hard to understand the motive behind Justice Dery’s move.

“What I know is that Anas is still the journalist of the year and we are not reversing any award” he stated.

Mr. Monney indicated that if the matter goes to court, the GJA would be ready to defend its action.

“We are ready to face them in court if they the court call on us. Till the court orders us to quash the award, we won’t dare do that because he (Anas) deserves the award” he noted.
