Greater Accra Tennis Association Club League Match Review

After several months of waiting, tennis fans within Accra were treated to the second edition of the Greater Accra Tennis Association Tennis League over the weekend.

It was an electrifying atmosphere at ten (10) tennis Club centers as fans and club members trooped to the various centers to support their clubs.

The matches played were a combination of social tennis among clubs and a battle for supremacy among the under 12, under 14 and the under 16 age categories. Even though it was the aim of the Greater Accra Tennis Association to promote Juvenile tennis in the Greater Accra Region most clubs could not raise any of the age categories.

They however presented a strong team in the social tennis division.

This was obviously translated into some interesting and shocking results coupled with some quality tennis displayed by all the clubs participating in the league.

The Army Officer’s Mess Tennis Club participating in the league for the second time and led by Captain Felix Kabutey defeated the first timers, Atomic Tennis Club led by Fiifi Nkansah, 5-3 and 4-3 in both the social and juniors division.

Command Mess Tennis Club, Burma Camp relied on the support from their senior and retired military members to beat their fellow clay court compatriots, Ghana Tennis Club, Adabraka 4-3 in the social division.

In an all Tema affair, Captain Arnold Priddy led Sakumono Tennis Club to host TOR Tennis Club with massive home support but lost miserably to Captain Baboo’s TOR Tennis Club 1-6 in the Social division, but won the junior division by 1-0.

Maritime Tennis Club, led by their chairman Mr. George Boye Andoh were poised for action but were disappointed as Stadium Tennis Club did not show up and as a result were awarded all the three points.  The game between GBC Training School Tennis Club and Kaneshie Tennis was postponed.
