Behold, the Holy Grail

President John Evans Atta Mills yesterday, Thursday, 15th October 2009 had a feel of the World Cup Trophy as it arrived in Ghana for public viewing. After receiving the trophy at 4pm at the Castle, Osu, President Mills kissed and raised it high and expressed optimism that Ghana would win the 32 nation World Cup- South Africa 2010. The Trophy, accompanied by officials of the world soccer governing body, FIFA and Coca Cola Company, the tour sponsors, arrived at the Kotoka International Airport on a special branded FIFA Coca-Cola aircraft, and was taken directly to the Castle to be presented to the President before its two-day public display. After examining the trophy, described as the �holy grail of world football�, an excited President Mills said it was the desire of Ghana to annex it. Consequently, he called tow presidential staffers to offer prayers for the success of the Black Stars in South Africa next year, and for victory for the Black Satellites in today�s Under 20 final match against Brazil in Egypt. He lauded the unifying spirit of football, and hoped that the tournament would help to unite the world for progress. �Football has done a lot and would continue to do a lot for us,� he stressed. The President, had taken time off his tour of the Eastern region, to return to Accra to receive the trophy, which was welcomed at the airport by a large crowd of soccer fans, commended all those who have contributed to the development of sport in Africa. The ceremony was attended by a wide array of top, retired and active footballers, coaches, and officials of the Ghana Football Association as well as Ministers of State, members of the Diplomatic Corps.
