EC Wasnt Smart EnoughThey Should Have Ignored Our Money PPP Natl Chairman

PPP’s National Chairman, Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond says the Electoral Commission [EC] should have rejected their banker’s draft when filing their presidential nomination form for their leader, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom.

He said, the EC wasn’t ‘smart’ enough – and accused them of belittling court orders after their earlier suit.

“We summited the banker’s draft because the law says so when filing for your nomination. But the EC should have thought twice and know that there’s an injunction pending on the payment. But they went ahead to collect the money” he said in an interview with NEAT FM’s morning show ‘Ghana Montie’

The Progressive People’s Party has dragged the EC to court for the second time ahead of December 7, polls – the PPP cited the Electoral Commission Chairperson for contempt after it held onto the party’s filing fee last week despite an application for injunction to this.

The EC Chair 'seized' the presidential filing fee offered her by the PPP’s National Chairman Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond last week.

Mrs Osei said she took the money because she thought the party had withdrawn its suit challenging the setting of the fee.

Before, she had rejected the filing fee of the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) citing the PPP’s court case challenging the ¢50,000 and ¢10,000 presidential and parliamentary filing fees respectively.

However, Nii Allotey Brew-Hammond told host <Nana Yaw Kesse that, the EC disrespected court orders by collecting their fees. We did not trick her, I told her to give me back the draft but she refused so she must face the law”
