“Rome was not built in a day. President John Mahama has worked hard in spite of the major challenges his government faced over the last three years. He is building the much needed infrastructure and gradually he is creating the opportunity for accelerated development. The best we can do is to show gratitude and retain him in office” These were frank admonitions by Nana Yaw Kagbrese, Omanhene of the Yeji Traditional Area, during Day 1 of President John Mahama’s campaign tour of the Brong Ahafo region.

Nana Kagbrese who is also the President of the Brong Ahafo regional House of Chiefs, noted that the major roads, schools, health facilities and other bold initiatives to improve the lives of the people across Brong Ahafo and the country at large are visible for all to see.

“All what we see were done under four years. He has suffered. People have tried to frustrate him, distract him but he has remained focused and is delivering on his mandate. Those claiming he has done nothing are merely doing politics. Those who are complaining had the opportunity to serve for eight years but John Mahama has done less than four years. He deserves a second term so why don’t we vote to retain him. Then we can compare him, and former Presidents Kufuor and Rawlings who also served eight years” …he emphasized.

The Paramount Chief of Yeji’s frank observation received spontaneous applause from his subjects and scores of NDC supporters who followed the President and his entourage to the Palace.

Nana Kagbrese commended the President for his selflessness and asked for more support in the area of education particularly to the Midwifery Training School which serves entire Pru and Sene districts.

In a brief response, President John Mahama announced the procurement of Water Taxis for the ferrying of commuters who shuttle between Agordeke and Kpando Torkor.

Mr Mahama also noted that the Ministry of Transport has been directed to allocate one of the two Pontoons acquired by the state to facilitate transportation on the Volta Lake.

The President who is campaigning in the eastern part of the Brong Ahafo region, used the opportunity to speak about some of his major achievements and policies intended to stabilize the economy for accelerated growth.

He noted that his government for example, has made “the most massive investment in the road sector in the history of Ghana, about three billion Ghana Cedis within the last three and a half years”

He commended the Chiefs and People in the Pru East area for their unflinching support for the NDC and pledged to continue ongoing development in the communities. He appealed to those who are yet to get their share of the national cake to exercise restraint.

“I share the Omanhene’s concern. Before I became President, the country had many challenges. Power crisis, the cedi, bad roads, hospitals, water etc but gradually we are fixing them. We spent time on Pink Sheets during the election petition case. Development partners put their support on hold because there were not too sure of the outcome. A whole year was wasted and today the same people have turned round blaming government. Only God ordains and I believe we have worked and deserve another term” President John Mahama added.

He also assured the chiefs that between three to five kilometers of Yeji Town roads will be constructed.

President John Mahama is accompanied by MP for Pru constituency, Dr Kwabena Donkor, Minister for Local Government, Alhaji Collins Dauda and regional executives of the party.
