Gov't Has Failed To Clamp Down On Illegal Miners - Atik Mohammed

General Secretary of the People's National Convention (PNC), Atik Mohammed has expressed worry over the inability of government to clamp down on illegal miners in the country.

To him, illegal mining (galamsey) continues to cripple the mining sector of the economy.

Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Atik Mohammed stressed that his verdict on government's fight against illegal miners is total failure and so, ask the government to re-strategize to ensure that mining sector is not exploited.

He further implored State authorities to disallow particularly the Chinese miners in the country who have destroyed the country's water bodies due to their operations.

He advised the authorities to depoliticize issues regarding illegal mining.

Also addressing the issue on Kokrokoo, Charles Owusu of the People's Progressive Party (PPP) wondered why the government has slacked in the combat against the menace.

He also expressed resentments over the ongoing operations of the illegal Chinese miners and asked Ghanaians to vote out the Mahama government because of its unending debacle.
