Oko Vanderpuye In Trouble!

Abdulai Obodai Squire, Propaganda Secretary at Korle Gonno Na_Rome branch of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has picked forms and announced his intention to contest the parliamentary seat as an independent candidate, throwing away any complacency that might have set in with the AMA boss, Mr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije off tangent.

Mr. Squire’s intention to contest the seat has sparked fear and panic in the Accra Mayor Vanderpuije and his team of supporters.

Mr. Abdulai Obodai Squire who is a farmer said he could no longer dismiss the call from party members who insist that he should contest.

According to him, over 45 out of the 56 polling station executives of the NDC had called on him to contest the December polls as an independent candidate and he could not disappoint them.

Squire, who is optimistic of winning the election as an independent candidate has promised to transform the living condition of residents if he becomes the Member of Parliament for the area come December 7, elections.

The aspiring MP, Hon Abdulai Obodai Squire at a news conference in Accra, told his teaming supporters that he is in to offer selfless service and leadership to his people.

Mr. Squire said the constituency had over the years, seen people who were elected to represent them in Parliament but the lifestyles of the people remained impoverished and that the time has come for change. "It is now time we make a change,” he stressed.

After he indicated that past MPs had done their part, he said there was the need to elect a person who was born and bred in the constituency, a person who is well acquainted with the problems that faced the people in order to find solutions to them and he, being an indigene of the community could best champion that course.

“I was born and bred in Korle Gonno and have lived with the people since childhood so I can profess the best solutions to their challenges” he stated.

He said, “We need people with lobbying skills to go to Parliament to woo investors to create job opportunities for the people, especially the youth, but not MPs whose interests are on trivial issues such as bereaved family support or marriage ceremonies to the detriment of the development of the large community.”

“I have observed that majority of the youth loiter around without job opportunities. This is a big problem which I hope to help solve if elected as the MP of the area” he assured,

Touting some of his achievements, he said, he had bought over 20 cars to drivers under work and pay arrangement,  helped with the provision of street lights in parts of the communities, paid school fees  and hospital bills for several individuals as well as the constructed drains in the community.

His key areas of focus will be job creation, healthcare, sanitation and sports development.

He also stated that the Korle- bu teaching hospital will experience a facelift especially at the maternity block and the children’s ward.

He said he had foreign partners who have agreed to do the expansion of the maternity and children’s block when he gets the nod.

“I will have an open door administration and anybody who needed assistance from me. I will be there for my people,” and pledged to build the capacity of the people in his constituency in human resource development.

Meanwhile scores of NDC members within the constituency who spoke to this paper maintained that Mr Squire has the full backing of majority of the youth in the NDC and the NPP welcomed the move for him to contest the seat as an independent candidate.

He has, subsequently, rolled out what he calls ‘scientific campaign’ which he stated will transform into votes for him come December 7th 2016.
