Manifestos Dont Win Elections Kufuor

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has said that the mere launch of a manifesto will not automatically lead to victory at the polls or conjure development of the country. “Of late a lot of fetish has been made about the writing of manifesto and some have even made it seem the mere launch of a manifesto will automatically lead to victory at the polls or conjure development of the country,” he said.

Speaking as chairman of the NPP’s manifesto launch ceremony in Accra on Sunday, Mr Kufuor noted that it was agreeable that manifestos were an important part in competitive multi-party politics, as they lay out the various trajectories that the different parties could pursue in office.

However, he said manifestos should not be reduced to just a collection of promises and scholarly work to impress.

Mr Kufuor said the features of the NPP manifesto focuses and revolves around upholding and advancing the dignity of humanity especially of all the citizens of the nation which has always been the call of the NPP tradition.

“Nowhere has poverty been eliminated by impoverishing the people. We can only fight poverty by creating wealth and we should not therefore as a people shy away from wealth creation.”
