The Convention People’s Party (CPP) could not submit the filing fees of its presidential and parliamentary nominees before the mid-day deadline on Monday, 10 October opening the party to possible disqualification from the December 7 polls.
Even though the party’s National Chairman, Prof Edmund Delle, got to the office of the Electoral Commission (EC) just a minute before the 12pm deadline, he could not submit the banker’s draft for the payments.
He informed the EC that the party would soon submit the fees, after which he was seen exiting the EC’s office in Accra to pursue the draft.
The EC set the deadline for the payments after an Accra High Court struck out an injunction suit filed by the Progressive People’s Party.
Fourteen out of the 17 presidential aspirants who picked the forms were able to submit their payments before the deadline.
Meanwhile, Class FM’s Paa Kwesi Parker-Wilson has reported that officials of the EC are in a meeting to discuss the fate of the CPP and other parliamentary aspirants who could not submit their banker’s draft before the deadline.
