The Minister of Roads and Highways, Inusah Fuseini and the Member of Parliament for Kpando in the Volta Region have been exposed for purportedly creating phantom projects in the Kpando municipality.
The two were dug by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Kpando at a press conference recently.
The statement issued by the party in the area and read by the Deputy Communications Director in the constituency, Carlos Billy Parku, emphasized that it was “blatantly untrue and misleading” that a 17-meter bridge had been constructed on the Kpando Agbenorxoe-Dafor road.
Mr Billy Parku said apart from the minister mentioning it in his statements, the MP, Dela Sowah, had captured the non-existent project on page 40 of her brochure titled, “Success Stories by Dela Sowa and President Mahama.”
NDC Hypocrisy
The NPP and several residents in the area wonder why a minister of state and a Member of Parliament will openly spread such lies just to score political points. This, the NPP noted, is a clear case of blending hypocrisy and propaganda – a phenomenon tagged by the NPP in the area as ‘hypoganda.’
Touching on what he called the true state of the roads in Kpando, Mr Parku noted that “Apart from the principal roads which were constructed long before the Atta Mills/Mahama government, Kpando township roads had never seen refurbishment or major construction as claimed by the president during his last State of the Nation address.”
He said apart from the mapping out of roads of the Kpando township by the NPP administration over nine years ago, nothing new had been added. “Simply put, Kpando Municipal Township roads have not been constructed anywhere. They include Angola, Commercial Bank-Prisons, Aloryi, Agbenorhoe-Dafor, Tsakpe, Kpando-Gbefi roads and a lot more,” he explained.
Phantom Projects, Empty Promises
The MP was further fingered for having several other non-existent projects in her brochure, apart from the bridge earlier mentioned.
One of such projects is an ultramodern sanitary facility, said to have been constructed at Kpando Zongo. The NPP said its tour of the community showed a different story as what could be seen was an old and dilapidated public toilet constructed over 20 years ago.
The caretakers of the facility were astonished when asked about the new facility, saying probably the new toilet was built at a location unknown to them.
What they however, remembered was a promise by Dela Sowah to build a modern facility for them. As far as they were concerned, the project is yet to materialize, as only building materials can be seen at the site.
Residents, particularly sports enthusiasts, were also unhappy with the failed promises by the MP and other government appointees, particularly Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, who in 2014 promised them of a major facelift of the Kpando Sports Stadium.
“We, therefore, wish to remind the president and his ministers that in order not to continue misleading and misinforming the citizenry of Kpando and the nation at large, they should account to the citizenry based on real, accurate and correct facts on the ground,” Mr Parku advised.
