Cedi Redenomination: I Can't Think Far...Is It Desperation Or Incompetence? - Ursula Quizzes

Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu Ekuful has censured President John Dramani Mahama for making claims regarding the redenomination of the cedi in 2007.

President John Mahama claimed that no Ghanaian knows the cost of the redenomination.

Addressing a gathering on Tuesday, October 11 on a campaign platform, President Mahama threw a challenge to the Vice Presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to disclose the cost of the redenomination almost a decade ago when he was then the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana.

"Do we remember the cedi redenomination under President Kufour? During that time, someone (Bawumia) was the [Second] Deputy Bank of Ghana Governor and up until now; even I, as a President, do not know the cost of the redenomination exercise.

"Up till today, no Ghanaian knows the cost of the redenomination exercise and the same people come and say someone is incompetent. When you redenominated the cedi, how much did it cost us? Simple things like these you cannot tell us and you have the nerve to come and talk about corruption. Look in the mirror and look at yourselves," the President said.

Making comments on the President's challenge to Dr. Bawumia, Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful asked whether the President was too "dull" to have heard the cost of the redenomination before making his claims.

According to her, what the President desires of Dr. Bawumia was disclosed by the former Bank of Ghana Governor Paul Acquah in 2007.

She expressed shock that the President is not privy to the information about the redenomination.

Is it intentional or inability to read and learn or desperation or as Dr. Bawumia said, its sheer incompetence? Even when you teach him, he won’t know. Even if you write for him, he can’t read. So, I can’t think far on this one. I really can’t think far.
