Mark-Oliver Kevor, the Eastern Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who filed nomination to replace Joseph Appiah Boateng as parliamentary aspirant for Afram Plains South Constituency in the December polls, has stepped down.
This would pave way for Eric Osei-Owusu, who came second in the party’s parliamentary primary, to contest for the seat in the 2016 parliamentary elections on the ticket of the NDC.
Mr. Kevor added that he has “no objections since it is in the interest of the party.”
Messrs Kevor and Owusu had filed nominations to represent the NDC after Mr Boateng, the Member of Parliament (MP) withdrew from the race due to a court case.
The MP is alleged to have been convicted of fraud outside the country.
Mr Boateng recently gave the Electoral Commission (EC) a 48-hour ultimatum to clarify which parliamentary candidate is representing the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the area.
The legislator, who had earlier thrown his weight behind Mr Kevor, revealed that he was “not disappointed but only interested in peace and unity in the party.”
He alleged that Mr Kevor succumbed to pressure from other members of the party.
Last week, the Concerned Youth of Afram Plains South Constituency, challenged the MP to carry out his threat to proceed to court to place an injunction on the parliamentary election in Afram Plains South Constituency on December 7.
The youth, in a press statement issued and signed the spokesman, Felix Amoah, said they were ready to face the MP squarely
and expose him for the whole world to know his true character.
According to them, since the election of Mr Boateng, the constituency has not seen even meaningful development, adding that if he doesn’t want to suffer any embarrassment, then he should keep quiet.
