No Parliamentary Candidate Disqualified In Greater Accra EC

All 147 Parliamentary Candidates of the various political parties who filed their nomination forms to contest for seats in the Greater Accra Region have been cleared to run for the poll on December 7, the Regional Director of the Electoral Commission has disclosed.

According to Mr Kwame Amoah, out of the total number, 28 are female while 129 are male.

He was speaking at a capacity building workshop for media practitioners ahead of this year’s elections on Tuesday in Accra.

On the contrary, the Electoral Commission disqualified 24 parliamentary aspirants from contesting in the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Ashanti Region.

Candidates who filed on the tickets of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), New Patriotic Party (NPP), Convention People’s Party (CPP) and the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) were not part of those disqualified in the region.

Out of 240 aspirants who filed their nomination at the close of filing last Friday October 7, only 216 were cleared to represent their respective political parties as parliamentary candidates in the elections.

The 24 aspirants were disqualified because they failed to pay the GHc10,000 filing fee. The EC pegged nomination forms for parliamentary aspirants at GHc10,000, whiles presidential aspirants paid GHc50,000.
