Blame Supporters Not Police- Nima NPP To Mahama

The East Ayawaso constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) yesterday took a swipe at President John Mahama for misplacing his query on the Police instead of his supporters who defied the approved route and marched to the residence of Nana Akufo-Addo last Sunday.

The day the NDC supporters went to the residence of the NPP flag bearer was a dark day in the history of democracy in the country, according to the constituency branch of the NPP during a press conference they held yesterday in their office.

The conference which was addressed by the constituency secretary of the party, Nana Obuoba Kissi had other executives in attendance including the Parliamentary Candidate, Mireku.

According to them, the attack was deliberate, well planned and undertaken upon the direction of the NDC.

They recalled how they had earlier, when they got wind of efforts being made by the NDC constituency chairman Olabode Williams to have Nana Addo pelted with stones when he comes to Nima, reported the matter to the Police.

“”We subsequently reported the matter to the Divisional Commander at the Nima Police Station. The commander promised to invite the NDC chairman for questioning and also assured us of full police protection when Nana comes to our constituency which he did anyway,” the party said.

On weekly basis, they explained that, the parties and the police meet to discuss the routes for keep-fit walks but on the fateful Sunday, the NDC defied the agreement and went in the direction of Nana’s house.

“Our question therefore is what was the NDC and its supporters doing at Nima West? This shows clearly that they have defied the rules of engagement laid down by the Police. On the said day, we heard Olabade Williams telling his supporters to move towards the Nima Police Station to meet the President who is coming from the GBC area,” they said.

One of Nana’s security questioned an NDC supporter as he was removing posters at Nana’s residence and he later began throwing stones.

“We in the Ayawaso East constituency see it as an attempt to create fear and panic in the youth who have vowed to vote against the incompetent NDC” they said.

“We were shocked therefore to hear the President blaming the Police for the barbaric act. We wish to tell the President that he should blame his poor organizers, incompetent executives and supporters who rushed to destroy valuables instead of sticking to the approved routes,” they added.

As custodians of Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, they went on, “we call on the Peace Council, Christian Council, the Muslim community and civil society organizations to add their voices to the UK and US missions in condemning the barbaric act.
