EC Urges Strong Backing For Credible Elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) has appealed for cooperation and strong backing of all key stakeholders to ensure the successful and credible conduct of the December 07 polls.

Mr. Serebour Quaicoe, the Ashanti Regional Director of the Commission, said it was determined to make sure that things were done transparently to make the outcome of next month’s election, incontestable.

Addressing members of the National House of Chiefs (NHC) at their meeting in Kumasi, he said the choice of voters at the ballot must be respected.

He indicated that elections were a stakeholder activity, which called for everybody to play their expected part well.

He pleaded with the chiefs to use their tremendous influence with the people to talk them out of anything that could mar the elections.

They should help all to get right with the rules governing the polls and work together to keep the nation united and peaceful.

Togbe Afede XVII, the newly elected President of the House, reminded his colleague chiefs as “fathers of the land”, to play positive role in efforts at making the processes leading to the elections transparent and fair.

He said it was important that the nation’s peace was jealously guarded at all times.

Togbe Afede advised the youth not to risk their lives for politicians, out there to manipulate them in pursuit of their self-serving interest.

He rallied the nation to stand together and work with unity of purpose to grow its democracy through the conduct of yet another successful presidential and parliamentary elections.
