THE ASHAIMAN police have confiscated a cache of dangerous weapons with several live ammunitions at a hideout at Gbetsile, Michel Camp, near Tema in the Greater Accra Region.

Four persons, including a 25-year-old lady, have been arrested for allegedly possessing dangerous weapons without lawful authority.

The suspects’ names were mentioned as Tanko Abdul Rahman, 25; Bright Tawiah alias Kpetseku, 25; Michael Dzogbema alias Yeye, 35 and his girlfriend, Matilda Sitsofe alias Atsufe.

Weapons such as 4 SMG rifles, G3 rifle, 3 SLR riffles, 12 magazines,             1,089 live ammunition as well as a jungle motorbike hidden in a container at Block Factory located at Gbetsile.

Following the discovery, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Juliana Obeng, spokeswoman for the Tema Regional Police Command, explained to DAILY GUIDE that Tanko and Rahman were arrested at their hideouts at Washington, a suburb of Zenu on Sunday, upon a tipoff.

According to her, the suspects led police to a block factory which belongs to one Dogo America at Gbetsile where the remaining suspects were picked up including Michael who was the caretaker of the block factory.

ASP Obeng said preliminary investigations revealed that the weapons were used by the suspects with others on the run for land guard activities at Gbetsile, Appolonia and the surrounding communities.

She said the weapons were in police custody for evidential purposes whiles investigations are ongoing.

With this year’s elections only a day away, the Tema Regional Police Command has expressed its preparedness to ensure that sanity prevails during and after the polls.
