The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate for the Tamale Central Constituency Dr. Ibrahim Anyars Imoro has petitioned the Northern Regional Electoral Commission over the constituency parliamentary elections.
Reports indicate that the NPP is likely to seek legal action to address the unresolved Tamale Central Constituency Parliamentary results and Lawyer Akoto Ampaw, Lawyer Kofi Bentil, Lawyer Hassan Tampuli will constitute the legal team.
The Tamale Central Constituency Parliamentary results have not been declared as a result of some irregularities that occurred from some polling stations in the constituency.
Even though the results were counted at the various polling stations, it was characterized by a lot of issues at the collation center.
The two strong candidates contesting the Tamale Central Parliamentary seat were Inusah Fuseini of the NDC and Dr. Ibrahim Anyars of the NPP.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate did not sign the Electoral Commission’s statement because of some inaccuracies in the collated parliamentary results and inaccurate register as well as destroyed ballot boxes; issues which were not resolved.
The party cited non-existent of two polling stations at Mallam Fari’s Mosque (A & B) with polling station codes H193804A and H193804B in the constituency.
According to the NPP, there was over-voting at twelve polling stations and upon the close of polls, complaints of over-votes initiated at polling stations remained unresolved at the collation centre.
The NPP candidate for the Tamale Central Constituency alleged that the Collation Center got invaded twice by the NDC Regional Chairman, Alhaji Sofo Azorka, with other NDC machomen and vigilantes.
Dr. Ibrahim Anyars accused the Electoral Commission of refusing to comply with CI.94 that regulates the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.
He stated categorically that, the NPP will not accept the collated results for the Tamale Central Parliamentary elections due to the improprieties.
He therefore requested for a re-run of the parliamentary elections in the Tamale Central Constituency.
