Akufo Addo Is A Seasoned Politician Fritz Baffour

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma South, Fritz Baffour, has said President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo is not a novice in politics but a “seasoned politician and an eminent jurist who has served as a parliamentarian and cabinet minister just under a decade ago”.

Mr Baffour said: “To many in Ghana, he is a symbol of determination, patience and perseverance as this was his third shot at becoming chief executive of one of Africa's finest nations.”

Mr Akufo-Addo of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) beat incumbent John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and five other candidates by securing 53.85 per cent of valid votes to become Ghana’s fifth president in the Fourth Republic.

Mr Baffour, who expressed his sentiments in a message posted to his Facebook wall, has urged members of his to learn from their mistakes.

“I have always preached decorum in political discourse: insults are eventually non-productive in the political realm, violence is even worse, and one should never underestimate opponents,” he wrote.

“I believe that for one to be successful in politics, deep introspection, a forte for analysing trends and relevant data, an ability to tramp and work beyond the pale, tinged with humility of purpose, are the attributes for success. Being cocksure and overconfident, if not backed by the aforementioned, will result in failure.”
