Police Hospital Gets More land

The Minister of the Interior, Cletus Avoka, has disclosed that his ministry and the Ministry of Health have concluded the take-over of the premises of the Forestry Commission for eventual handling over to the Police for expansion of the Police Hospital. He said this during the presentation of 10 cars to the Police Hospital by the Ministry of Health on Monday in Accra. Mr Avoka stated that the hospital plays an important role in the handling of national emergencies, during times of industrial action by other health institution. It also caters for unknown persons, the destitute, the deaf and dumb, abandoned babies among a legion of others, he stated. The Interior Minister said, that the efforts of the Police Hospital has not been recognized over the years, a situation that has led to the continuous use of outdated equipment and facilities, inadequate, and de-motivated health staff. It is a matter of grave concern that such an important asset has not seen any major expansion or upgrading of both human and material resources since its establishment in 1996, Mr Avoka said. The two ministers have worked in close collaboration to make sure that whatever incentives that is enjoyed by health staff of the ministry and the Ghana Health Service is extended to the Police Hospital to motivate them, he noted. The Medical Director of the Police Hospital, DCOP Godfred Asiamah, said that since the establishment of the hospital, some 33 years ago, it has played its part in the health delivery system in the country. He added that the hospital has done this by complementing the effort of the government in providing health care to the people especially during industrial actions by personnel of the Ghana Health Service.
