Jobs For NDC Boys At NSS

Some volunteers at the National Service Secretariat in the Northern Region have accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government of abandoning them and rather giving appointment letters to party loyalists for jobs.

According to them, they have been working for the National Service Scheme for the past two years and were given the assurance that they would be retained when recruitments started.

“For the past two years we have been working and all you see is some people coming to the office that they have been given appointment letters,” one of them bemoaned.

They claimed some persons believed to be party loyalists were invited for interviews on 10th December, 2016 and subsequently issued with appointment letters to start work, and accused the acting Executive Director, Michael Kpessa-Whyte of failing them

The volunteer workers have threatened to withdraw their services until they are duly employed as permanent staffs of the service.

“We are using our own laptops and the data is on them so if we decide not to work you can imagine what will happen to the allowances of service personnel in the region,” a source hinted.

Information gathered indicates that the Regional Director of the National Service Scheme had refused to accept any appointments until he receives a directive from the headquarters.

Allowances of over 6,500 National Service personnel in the Northern Region for the months of December, 2016 and January, 2017 might delay due to a decision taken by the volunteers to stop processing for the payments of the allowances.

Some of the workers who spoke to DAILY GUIDE on condition of anonymity pointed out that they were using their own laptops and other logistics to work.

They indicated that some of them came from other regions and only earn GH¢350.00 a month – just like the National Service personnel.

They appealed to the outgoing government to stop the appointments because it is leaving office and that anything could happen.

The National Service Scheme dismissed 163 permanent staffs over financial malfeasance allegedly identified in the operations of the Personnel Allowances Accounts in the 2013/14 service year.

The volunteers were picked two years ago to work following the dismissals who were in the various offices of the Scheme across the country.
