NDC Chief Destooled

The Ankobeahene of Essienimpong, near Ejisu in the Ashanti Region, has been destooled for publicly rendering key services to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) during the December 7 polls.

Nana Ekon Ansa Boafo, reportedly defied the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s stern directive to chiefs in Asanteman not to engage in partisan politics.

He reportedly acted as polling agent for the NDC during the elections.

The chiefs and elders at Essienimpong, who obviously are peeved over the Ankobeahene’s action, verbally told Nana Ansa Boafo that he had been destooled and so he should not parade himself as chief again.

The Essienimpong chiefs and elders would properly perform traditional rites to destool the beleaguered chief after the burial of Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, reports indicate.

Nana Ekon Ansa Boafo is said to be an ardent supporter of the NDC, who had publicly made his strong love and affection for the party known to the residents of the area and the nearby towns over the years.

Chief’s Response

Commenting on the matter on Otec FM, Nana Ansa Boafo, confirmed that indeed he had been destooled by the chiefs and elders at Essienimpong because of his affection for the NDC.

He did not sound like he was worried about his fate, neither did he give any clue that he might contest his destoolment.

He only said that he had been wrongly victimized.

Rebuttal

Meanwhile, other chiefs in the area, who pleaded anonymity, said it’s not true that Nana Ansa Boafo was destooled because he acted as the polling agent for the NDC.

According to them, the Ankobeahene started acting as polling agent for the NDC during the 2008 elections but he was not punished, so it’s not true he had been destooled now due to his love for the NDC.

The chiefs disclosed that Nana Ansa Boafo blatantly refused to offer key traditional services to the Essienimpong chief, and that the chief’s behaviour had resulted in his destoolment.
