Private Farmers To Keep Data/Records

The Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Kwesi Ahwoi, has called on departments, ministries and agencies that are related to agriculture, to put in place mechanism to generate reliable statistical data among private farmers and investors. He said private farmers and investors need to be sensitized and educated, to appreciate the need to keep records, to be able to provide good data on their lands and crop, to help governments intentions come to a reality. Speaking at the 21st Session of the African Commission on Agricultural Statistics (AFCAS) in Accra, Hon. Ahwoi said most of the local farmers do not keep relevant and accurate records of their properties (crops), hence do not benefit from certain policies that are implemented by the government in their favour. He has therefore asked them to keep correct data to make things easier for government, and themselves to move the countrys economy forward. Government Statistician, Dr, Grace Bediako, in her address said the agric sector is one of the most difficult areas to obtain accurate and timely data and so government should ensure that the required systems are put in place to generate more routinely basic information to affect policies that would yield positive impact on the countrys development processes.
