Herve Renard Open To Ghana Return

The Frenchman manager would like the opportunity to coach the Black Stars in the years to come.

French coach Herve Renard still holds on to a connection with Ghana, saying he will not hesitate to lead the Black Stars in the future.

The former Lille manager's first coaching stint in Africa was a physical trainer role with the Black Stars, under coach Claude Le Roy for the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, where Ghana fell 1-0 to Cameroon in the semi-final.

Currently the head coach of Morocco, the 48-year-old has evidently moved on to become a master of his own, leading Zambia and Cote d'Ivoire to continental glory in 2012 and 2015 respectively.

"In life, we never know what can happen," Renard told TV3.

"I will never refuse an offer from the Ghana federation depending on the timing, of course. When you are under contract, it is not possible.

"But one day, it will be nice for me. I will never forget that it was where I started. I learnt a lot with Le Roy there.

"I don’t think even if I won the Africa Cup of Nations twice, I had a better team than the Ghana team of 2008.

"This team was fantastic. When I first saw [Michael] Essien, [Sulley Muntari], I was impressed because they were fantastic. We were unlucky.

"Even now, I remember everything in the semi-finals and how Cameroon scored."

Interestingly, Ghana were defeated twice by Renard-led team s at the Afcon.

At the 2012 edition, Zambia handed the Black Stars a 1-0 defeat in the semi-final, courtesy of Emmanuel Mayuka's 78th minute strike.

And at Equatorial Guinea 2015, the Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire defeated Ghana on penalties in the final.
