People engaged under various modules of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), unsure about the security of their job because of the change in political administration, have been told to remain calm.
Mr. Robert Mensah Akpedonu, Ashanti Regional Director of the Agency, said they would not be sacked.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi, he said until the two-year contract they had signed with the government had run out, nobody would be laid off.
He pointed out that engaging people under the various modules was not done on the basis of partisan political consideration and therefore it would be unlawful for the new government to terminate their contract.
“The programme is a national intervention to reduce the high unemployment rate among the youth and it is unlikely the new government would want to truncate it”.
Mr. Akpedonu stated that nobody was sent home when the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was voted to power in 2009 and therefore there should be “no cause for alarm”.
The programme currently has employed in excess of 100,000 young people under its agriculture, sanitation and education modules.
