The Black Star says he should have been more purposeful in front of goal in Ghana's first game at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has insisted that he remains a penalty kick expert in the Black Stars squad despite refusing to take penalties.
The 31-year-old was severely criticised back home following his penalty miss at the 2010 Fifa World Cup against Uruguay that saw Ghana losing an opportunity to become the first African country to reach the semi-finals of the competition.
Two years later, he failed to transform a spot kick against Zambia in the semi-finals of the 2012 Afcon and has since refused to honour his duties but says he will take part in the event of a penalty shootout in Gabon.
“I used to be the first choice for penalty kicks but now there is someone taking it. I can say I am the expert penalty taker but I can only take the penalty kicks when the game travels to penalty shootouts in the knockout or final and I am still on the pitch,” Gyan said on Thursday.
“At the 2015 Afcon final, the coach substituted me towards the end of the game but he is the coach and takes the decisions. I didn’t ask to be changed in that game. It was the coach that made the change.
"I heard people circulating that I asked to be substituted in order not to be part of the penalty shootouts but that’s not true,” he added.
Ghana will take on Mali in the second game of the group on Friday.
