Afari Gyan Was NastyHe Opposed NIS Dr. Nduom (Video)

One significant stride the new NPP administration has made is to revive the implementation of a comprehensive national identification project.

The implementation of the project has stalled at various stages and one person whose action allegedly put the project on a sick bed was Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan.

The former Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, according to Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, was instrumental in opposing the implementation of the National Identification Project.

Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom has been directly involved in the implementation of the project at various stages.

As Minister for Economic Planning and Regional Cooperation during the erstwhile Kufour administration, Dr. Nduom claims he led the administration to put together a national economic dialogue which established that Ghana, needed a national identification system.

In an address on ATV’s flagship, 'Ghana, Great and Strong', the renowned politician noted that the nastiness with which Dr. Afari Gyan and the EC opposed the national project amazed him.

He explained that when the idea of having a national identification system for Ghana was put before stakeholders, the EC led by its former Chair, Dr. Afari Gyan, resisted it.

“He (Dr. Afari Gyan) didn’t do that in a nice way. He resisted it in a nasty way- quoting laws that only they (EC) had the right to set up such a system”, he said.
