A 45-year-old man has been arraigned before a Kumasi circuit court for defrauding a court registrar of GH¢12,300 under the pretext of selling him a vehicle.
The accused, Ibrahim Mohammed, pleaded not guilty to the charge of defrauding by false pretense and was remanded into prison custody, until February 23, 2017.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Timothy Amoako, told the court, presided by Mrs. Mary Nsenkyire that, Mohammed was a farmer and lived at Adidwan near Mampong in the Ashanti Region.
The complainant, Gabriel Kofi Kyeremeh is a Registrar at the District Court at Ejisu, who met Mohammed at Ash Town District Court, where he(Kyeremeh) formerly worked as a Registrar.
According to the prosecution, Mohammed during the month of May 2016, went to the Ash Town court, to institute a civil suit against his debtors over sales of some vehicles which he discussed in details with Kyeremeh.
During the discussion, the prosecution said Mohammed told Kyeremeh that, he could assist him purchase a vehicle of his choice and on very favorable terms.
Prosecution said, Kyeremeh became interested and ordered for a KIA Rhino car from Mohammed at a cost of GH¢65,000.00, for which he made a part payment of GH¢10.000.00 and they agreed to spread the payment of the remaining amount within three years.
Kyeremeh, however, paid another GH¢2,300.00 to Mohammed for the registration of the vehicle and the purchase of fuel to bring the vehicle from Accra to Kumasi within a week. After the payment of GH¢12,300.00 to Mohammed, he could not be traced as his phones went off and he went into hiding.
Kyeremeh later reported the case to the police and investigation led to the arrest of Mohammed at his hideout in Adidwan in September 2016. He was sent to the Zongo Police Station.
The prosecutor told the court that, during police interrogation, Mohammed admitted to the offence in his police cautioned statement and he was subsequently charged and arraigned before the court.
