Totobi Quakyi: This Time I am Ready For Spio

Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, a leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) seems to be drawing political fire unto himself. After describing members of President Atta Mills administration as Team B or reservists, he drew a strong response from another leading member, Mr. Ato Ahwoi. This time round, Spio has drawn the anger of a former Minister of National Security, Mr. Kofi Totobi Quakyi. Totobi said of his fellow Fanti, Spio has been engaged in childish politics and it is time for him to grow up. The Daily Dispatch newspaper had, throughout last week been in touch with Totobi, trying to get him to react to certain accusations leveled against him by Spio during last Tuesdays edition of Good Evening Ghana on Metro TV. He agreed to a short interview. Spio had alleged that certain persons who disliked him were in the campaign in 1993 to have him disqualified as a Minister because he was not a registered voter. He also alleged that Totobi started hating him because when he was asked to come down to Accra as the Ghanaian Ambassador to the United States, he was asked to take over from Totobi as the Chairman of the NDCs Publicity Committee. This had led to a situation of the Ahwois having a grudge against him. Totobi Quakyi told the Daily Dispatch, Spio is his own worst enemy and needs to do some serious soul-searching if he wants to continue in politics. Any political figure worth his salt, must every now and then, look within himself and seek Gods divine wisdom. Totobi was so angry that the Daily Dispatch has had to edit certain harsh words. He said: Spios behavior lends itself to high drama but low on wisdom. Unbridled pride and arrogance seem to be the central metaphor of his politics. He is an example of the disconnection between so called academic brilliance and (words deleted). Totobi Quakyi, who is the longest serving Information Minister in Ghanas history, said last Tuesdays TV programme was not the first time Spio had attacked him publicly. He said he had done so many times, to many people privately and on other media fora! Totobi Quakyi revealed further, between 2003 and 2004, I formally wrote to the NDC leadership about the way and manner Spio had been insulting me but no action was taken. This time, I am ready for him.
