Otiko Is Not A Role-model . . . She's Carved A Bad Image - NDC MP

Member of Parliament for Bia East in the Western Region, Hon. Richard Acheampong says posterity will judge the ruling New Patriotic Party [NPP] and Nana Akufo-Addo’s government for entertaining the insubordination of Ms. Otiko Djaba before the Vetting Committee.

According to him, history is on the side of the Minority NDC in Parliament for not passing into office the new Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister as she shown gross disrespect to the former President Mahama yet was overwhemingly endorsed by the majority NPP, irrespective of the fact that she openly refused to apologise to the Ex-President.

Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Hon. Acheampong wondered the sort of moral upbringing the NPP was inculcating in the youth for encouraging the behaviour of the Gender Minister by using their majority number in Parliament to vote for Ms. Otiko Djaba.

History is on our side and posterity will judge all of us and we believe it is time to put an end to this as it has happened in the past; we in the Minority didn’t want to part of this behaviour and that is why we didn’t partake in the voting. What is the moral upbringing in this and what kind of society are we building? What kind of behaviour are we leaving behind for our children?” he quizzed.

He however indicated that there are issues surrounding the Gender Minister and so President Akufo Addo as the father of the land who believes in the rule of law should have done the right thing by enforcing the minister to apologise.

Today, the NPP has the numbers in Parliament but what about tomorrow . . . because one day Nana Addo will be Ex-President and we do not expect the same thing to be done to him. This behaviour is not good and we should condemn it,” he opined.

He stressed that “all the appointees were passed by concession except Otiko Djaba and this is going to affect her work as Gender Minister; she is going to deal with the international community and people will know who she is.”

“ . . they think they have the majority in Parliament to pass her but it is going to affect the Ministry; the whole world knows she has insulted former President Mahama and refused to apologise as well,” he emphasized.
