CHRAJ Chases M&J Ministers

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) may be going after politicians cited as beneficiaries in the historic Mabey and Johnson (M&J) bribery scandal who have not responded to the Commissions invitation to make themselves available for investigations. Speaking to Joy FM on the journey so far in the attempt to get to the bottom of the matter, Chairman of the Commission, Emile Short, said only two of the six named officials have so far reacted to a request to respond to the allegations. According to him, once the October 31, 2009 deadline given the officials is over, the commission has no option but to use legal means to compel them to respond. He named those who had complied as Dr. George Sipa Yankey, former Health Minister and Mr. Edward Lord Attivor, one time deputy Roads and Highways Minister. The other officials yet to respond include Alhaji Baba Kamara, currently Ghanas high Commissioner to Nigeria; Amadu Seidu, former Minister of State at the Office of the President; and Dr. Ato Quarshie, a former Minister for Roads and Highways. Daily Guide has gathered that former Water Resources, Works and Housing Minister, Alhaji Boniface Saddique, would be submitting his response today. The six among others, were implicated in bribes totaling over 750,000 pounds, when M&J took up contracts to build bridges in Ghana during the National Democratic Congress (NDC-1) regime in the 1990s.
