The Dusseldorf-born reveals he could consider playing for the Black Stars when given the opportunity.

Hamburg midfielder of Ghanaian descent Gideon Jung says he is yet to take a final decision over his international future, pending a senior invite.

The youngster has been handed a call-up by Germany's under-21s for upcoming games with England and Portugal on March 24 and 28 respectively, following a run of good performances in 22 Bundesliga appearances involving 20 starts this season.

He is still chasing his first cap for Germany despite previous invites.

"There was [contact with the Ghana FA]," Jung told Mopo.

"A few months ago, national trainer Avram Grant called me and inquired. 

"He wanted to get to know me. It was a pleasure. Of course I can also imagine playing for Ghana."

Jung was born to Ghanaian parents in Dusseldorf.

"[There's] a lot [of Ghana in me]," Jung added.

"The last time I was there was 13 years ago. It is my second home.

"We have a lot of family there. I notice that I have two sides in me. That's nice.

"A World Cup is a goal for every footballer. But you have to make a difference. That is why this is a dream for me, but it is far away. 

"I'm still in the beginning. And a decision over Germany or Ghana has not yet taken place, since it is simply not yet an issue [without a senior national call-up]."

Jung will still be eligible to represent Ghana at senior level, even if he does take to the pitch for the Europeans this time around.

Per Fifa’s law on player eligibility, only a competitive game at senior level can prevent a player from switching international allegiance.

Last year, Jung was among three European-born players contacted by Ghana FA over a possible nationality switch, the others being Manchester United and the Netherlands' Timothy Fosu-Mensah as well as Inaki Williams of Athletic Bilbao and Spain.
