Mills Is Causing Financial Loss To The State

The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South Constituency in the Easter Region, Lawyer Atta Akyea, has taken a swipe at the NDC governments decision to relocate the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Golden Jubilee House, describing it as unfortunate and an insult to the presidency of this country. According to him, the Jubilee House was not meant to be used by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but built specially for the purpose of housing the presidency, adding that it is rather sad to see the current administration try to devalue the facility. He stressed that what has come back to haunt President Mills and his NDC government was the propaganda and disparaging comments they made about the Jubilee House during last years electioneering campaign. Because of what the NDC said during the electioneering campaign period that they will use the Jubilee House as a hen coop among others, President Mills and his administration are finding it very difficult to use the place, Lawyer Atta Akyea emphasized in a telephone interview with newsmen. In the estimation of the Abuakwa South MP, the continuous refusal by the President to move into the Golden Jubilee was causing financial loss to the state. He explained that it must be borne in mind that the Ghanaian taxpayer also contributed immensely to the putting up of the facility. President Atta Mills refusal to occupy the Golden Jubilee House is a monumental waste to the scarce resources of this country, and by his sheer reluctance to move, it is causing financial loss to the state, asserted the outspoken MP. Lawyer Atta Akyea further went on to attribute the refusal of the Mills administration to occupy the Jubilee House because the NDC sees it as a facility put up by its political rivals, the NPP. This, he said, was laughable. He said even though President Mills is the President of Ghana and can decide what to do with the Golden Jubilee House, he reminded the President to bear in mind that the facility was put up for an intended purpose. He attributed the level of deterioration at the Jubilee House to the fact that the President has, on numerous occasions, been opposed to going to use the place as the official seat of government. I can tell you that the level of deterioration at the Jubilee is as a result of the Presidents decision not to move to the place and use it as the seat of government, stated Lawyer Atta Akyea. It would be recalled that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was recently gutted down by fire which incident is still under investigations by the security agencies. Following that unfortunate incident, the Chief of Staff in a statement yesterday directed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration be temporarily relocated to the Administration and General Services Wings to the Jubilee House. According to the statement, this will last until the construction of a new foreign affairs ministry by the Chinese government is completed within two years time.
