Dead Body Spends 7yrs In Mortuary Due To Litigation At Abbeyman

The Queen of Abbeyman in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, Naa Dodi Akaibi II, known in private life as Comfort Sakey, has been accused of being responsible for the long delay in burying a departed traditional priest in the area.

The dead, Nii Okine Wulomo, the Wulomo of Abbeyman passed on in 2010.

But, the queen in an interview with the Daily Heritage has rubbished any claim of being responsible for the non-burial of the traditional priest for the past seen years. She explained that litigation was to blame for the long delay in burying the Wulomo.

Earlier in an interview, the Abbeyman Family head, Jacob Nii Ahele Buabeng said all efforts by the family to get the mortuary receipts of the Wulomo from the queen to pay all the necessary expenses to pave way for smooth burial have yielded no results.

"Any time we send people to her to hand over the mortuary receipt to enable us pay for all the cost for the past seven years, she refuses to do so," Nii Buabeng said.

Recounting events leading to the installation, Nii Buabeng said Naa Akaibi was installed as queen for Abbeyman in 1992 and immediately after that she move from Abbeyman and settled at Damsoman leaving all her traditional roles bare for the past 25 years.

He added that in 2009, exactly eight years ago, after several complaints made to her to rescind her decision by taking up her role as queen annual traditional roles as custom demanded failed, the then family head of Abbeyman made up of six quarters dethroned her.

The six quarters were, Nii Abbey We, Nii Djan We, Amartey Kwao We, Nyarkuma Ago We, Kwaku Wobli We and Odarkwei We.

The family head said the family in December 23, 2015, secured an affidavit from the commissioner of Oath disclaiming that Naa Akaibi had been dethroned as the lawful representative of the Abbeyman Family.

When contacted last Saturday, march 25, 2017, Naa Akaibi told the paper that she was still the rightful queen of Abbeyman and still remained same, adding that the case of her legitimacy had been sent to the Sempe Mantse Nii Otintor for peaceful adjudication.

She further called on all her supporters to rally behind her as victory was in the offing.
