The Ghana Water Company Limited has warned the public to desist from illegal connections as those found culpable would be prosecuted.
Peter Veer, Regional chief manager for Accra West Ghana Water Company limited, who gave the caution, added that people should desist from buying meters outside the offices of the company.
“There is a process to follow in acquiring meter. We do not have agents who go around selling meters. Anyone who does that might have stolen it. Soif anybody approaches you with meter and says he wants to sell it, report such a person to the authorities”, he explained.
Measures, according to him, have been put in place to protect the image of informants. Mr. Veer made the comment at a public forum held for inhabitants of Chorkor, a suburb of Accra, to mark the World Water Day.
In commemoration of World Water Day, the Company embarked on a community outreach programme in Chorkor to educate customers on water supply issues such as new service connection procedures, understanding your water bill, illegal connection issues, and other customer concerns.
Mr. Veer further noted that a World Bank-sponsored programme dubbed: ‘Greater Accra Municipal Authorities (GAMA)’, will be rolled out to help the under privileged communities and extend water facilities to them.
“In so doing, we need to involve them, meet them, and let them understand what the whole program is about, the role and responsibility of every member in the society,” he said. The community outreach and public forum will continue in other local and deprived communities around the country
