Coconut Grove Opens For Business After Fire Outbreak

The Coconut Grove Regency Hotel was on Monday opened to business after fire ravaged sections of it on Saturday evening.

The fire destroyed a branch of GN Bank, two television stations (Amansan TV and Business TV) and other shops at the hotel, located at North Ridge in Accra.

There were no causalities as staff members were able to run to safety when they noticed smoke wafting from the studios of ATV.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded quickly to douse the fire.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the premises of the hotel at 0800 hours on Monday, some people were busily collecting the debris left by the fire and smoke was still billowing from the building.

Workers from other branches of the Groupe Ndoum’s business conglomerate were also helping to salvage some documents.
The GN Bank and Gold Coast Fund Management was opened for business as indicated in a statement signed by Mr Richmond Duke Keelson, the Corporate Affairs Manager of Group Nduom.

The statement also noted that ATV was supposed to begin broadcasting earlier yesterday.

The GNA observed that the Regency Hotel and its restaurant, guest rooms and conference facilities were not touched by the fire.

Meanwhile, Mr Kwame Ofori Asomaning, the Managing Director of Ghana Growth Fund, an investing arm of Groupe Nduom, has assured clients that all funds are safe and all vaults are intact.

The GNFS has commenced investigations to determine the cause of fire.

The Coconut Grove Regency Hotel, a three- star hotel established 23 years ago, is owned by a business mogul and Leader of the Progressive People’s Party, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom. It has branches in Elmina and Obuasi.
