NDC Searches For Flagbearer

Even before the professor Kwesi Botchwey Committee tasked to investigate the cause of the defeat handed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2016 general election presents its report, some party gurus and financiers of the party have in separate meetings resolved to push their own agendas with respect to the Presidential and Vice presidential slots of the party, our intelligence indicate.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC), suffered a crushing defeat at the December 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections, the magnitude and spread of this defeat across the country is unprecedented.

Many reasons were cited fort eh humiliating defeat handed the incumbent government. Whilst some cited corruption, others accused some of the leaders of failing to engage the grass root supporters during the elections.

The leadership of the party was dumbfounded since they were over-confident of a resounding victory and therefore could not provide appropriate response to the anger and bitterness expressed by the members of the party in the aftermath of the defeat.

There has been a torrid round of media accusations with leading members casting aspersions at each other.

At a meeting between some gurus and financiers of the party held last week at a secret location in Accra, it came out at the meeting that the NDC needs massive re-branding and a new face that cannot be directly linked with the failings and mistakes of the Mahama administration, to lead the party.

They argued that the NDC is never a lame horse, but a strong active horse that was entrusted in the hands of a horse rider who didn't use it well and therefore the healing must begin with changing the horse rider.

They therefore decided to consider sponsoring one of these tickets as their preferred presidential candidates for the 2020 general elections.

The tickets are Haruna Iddrisu/Prof Kwesi Botchwey, Dr. Ekow Spio Gabrah, Haruna Iddrisu, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo. They also agreed that the party leadership in the next congress should be structured and follows, Doe Ajaho to become the National Chairman, Aseidu Nketia, as 1st National Vice Chairman, Dr. Benjamin Kumbour, 2nd National Vice Chairman and Prof Joshua Alibi as 3rd National Chairman, Nana Oye Lithur as National Women Organizer, Felix Ofosu Kwakye as National Youth Organizer and Yaw Boating Gyan as National Organizer.

They believe the new leader of the NDC can easily unite all members of the NDC party and reactivate dormant and inactive NDC voters who for some reasons refused to vote for them in 2016 and that his rise gives a new opportunity for NDC to cure the apathy for which some NDC voters refused to go to the polls. With that assured, a truly united NDC cannot be beaten by Akufo-Addo/Bawumia-led NPP, they argue.
