Samira Bawumia, Mustapha Hamid win Personality of the Year Awards

The wife of the Vice President, Hajia Samira Bawumia has been named the Female Personality of the Year at the second edition of the Ghana Muslim Achievers Award (GMAA).

 
The awards were organised by Sukra Concepts in collaboration with the Office of the National Chief Imam and Progressive Muslims last Friday (April 28) at the National Theatre in Accra.
 
The only daughter of politician, Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, the National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and Hajia Ayesha Ramadan has become one of the leading voices of the governing New Patriotic Party and also played a vital role during their 2016 election campaign. 
 
Samira is a polyglot and speaks five languages; Ewe, Ga, Twi, Fanti and her husband’s native tongue, Mamprusi.
 
The former beauty contestant and TV presenter read BA Social Science in Law and Sociology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and was later adjudged the Best Student in Master of Business Administration (MBA) for Project Management at GIMPA.
 
Her husband, the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in an address at the awards said recognising Muslim heroes was crucial and important to the development of the Muslim communities and the nation at large.
 
He, therefore, commended them for the recognition of the Muslim Ummah, especially the youth who were contributing to the development of the religion, their communities and the nation at large.
 
This year’s award scheme celebrated and awarded Muslim Veterans who had contributed their quota to the development of their communities and for their hard work.
 
He said Government is committed to the development of Muslim and Zongo Communities, hence the institution of the Inner City and Zongo Development Ministry and the Zongo Development Fund aimed at revamping Zongo communities to improve and lift up their standards of living.
 
The Vice President noted that education which is the bedrock of every country development is important and that government would build more schools in Zongo communities to raise the educational standards in the communities.
 
Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu prayed for peace for the nation and wisdom for the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr Bawumia.
