NDC Needs Fresh And Committed Executives To Give Victory In 2020 - Victor Smith

Ghana's former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom in the Mahama administration and a failed parliamentary aspirant for Abuakwa North constituency, Victor Smith, believes that an overhaul of the NDC’s executive structure is non-negotiable following the party’s overwhelming defeat in the 2016 elections.

According to him, the extent of dynamism and commitment in the current NDC Executives is nothing to write home about, hence the need to change the current team to pave way for fresher ones help the party to win the 2020 elections.

“I think we need more than that because something went wrong and that is why I am saying the executives must be changed to pave way for fresher ones to join to make us win the 2020 elections,” he averred.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Victor Smith without listing what went wrong said the results in the 2016 elections was not the expectation of the NDC.

“Inasmuch as I will not discuss for now what went wrong, the results in the 2016 elections was not our expectation and that’s why we need a fresh team in order to achieve the desired results for the party,” he insisted.

“My opinion should not be seen as in conflict with the Kwesi Botchwey’s committee and I don’t think I have erred in anyway voicing out what I think about NDC’s defeat. Kwesi Botchwey can go on with the fact finding and I am not saying this with immediate effect, but I think the NDC executives did a poor work which resulted in our defeat,” he emphasized.

He however was of the firm believe that changing the current team is the obvious way to ensuring victory for the NDC in the next election as the party needs more dynamism, fire and commitment in the party.

“I have kept my ears on the ground and my suggestion is that in 2020, if we change the team, it will help; we need more dynamism, more fire and more commitment. The current team may have all these things but nothing stops me from asking for more to ensure that we get what we want,” he added.

He further debunked the report which quoted him of mentioning specific names in the NDC Executives who need to be overhauled, but insist that the team’s commitment was poor towards the 2016 elections and so they must be changed; thus nothing stops them from contesting again.
