Strengthen Institutions To Fight Against Corruption - PPP Director Of Operations Tells Gov't

Corruption has become an intricate topic at the heart of the Government of Ghana with the President of the Republic, Nana Dankwa Akufo-Addo, pledging to clamp down on corrupt officials.

The President has sternly warned against any corruptible practices and setting up the office of the State Prosecutor to address such issues of corruption.

Addressing the issue on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', the Director of Operations of the Progressive People's Party (PPP) Nana Ofori Owusu has called on the government to strength the institutions of the State in the fight against corruption.

According to him, to win the fight against corruption; institutions such as Parliament and the public service sector should be well-equipped and suported.

Nana Owusu complained bitterly about what he terms as "weak" nature of Ghana's Legislative House.

He was of a strong view that the Members of Parliament, who are mandated to aid in the fight against corruption, are themselves weak and failing to nip the menace in the bud.

Nana Owusu therefore urged them to up their game and ensure that corruption is dealt with.

He further urged the government to equip the public service sector to make the sector attractive and responsible as the nation looks for ways to end corruption.

He noted that there should be better conditions of service and the work environment should be conducive to serve as incentive to public servants who he added are the backbone of the country.

"Where's the pride? What have we done? How do we recruit? How do we retain? What is the career development of the public servant?" he questioned.
