Philanthropist constructs classroom block for community

Mr. Kwasi Kyeremateng, a businessman and philanthropist, is single-handedly funding the construction of a four-unit classroom block with office and store for the Atwedie D\A Primary School at Atwedie in the Asante Akim South District. The project which is expected to be completed in two months to replace the existing block which has become a threat to the lives of pupils and teachers of the school. This came to light when a team of officials from the District Directorate of Education, led by Mr. Joseph Charles Amoah, District Director of Education paid a working visit to the school. Mr. Kyeremateng who is a native of the town, in an interaction with the officials said his gesture was informed by the dilapidated state of the block, which he described as a death trap. He said it was his contribution towards the improvement on educational infrastructure in the area, to promote effective teaching and learning, stressing the need for a sustained effort to invest in education. Mr. Kyeremateng, who is also the Proprietor of King Edward International School in Accra, noted that the promotion of quality education was not the responsibility of only government and called for private sector participation. Mr. Joseph Charles Amoah, District Director of Education commended Mr. Kyeremateng for his gesture, saying it was the first in the history of the District for an individual to provide a classroom block for a school. He said the project was a boost to education in the community and called on well meaning Ghanaians to emulate his spirit of patriotism.
