YEA Exposes NDC

Acting Chief Executive Officer of Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has exposed some corrupt deals that took place in his outfit during the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

Addressing journalists in Accra yesterday, Mr. Justin Frimpong disclosed that an audit report by his outfit has revealed that some NDC officials engaged in illegalities during their administration, and called for their arrest and prosecution.

Mr. Frimpong revealed that “so far YEA has deleted over 16,839 names from its payroll after the report found their employment to have been tainted with fraud.”

According to him, the deletion of the ‘ghost’ names has saved the nation more than two million Ghana cedis.

This, he noted, became necessary after the YEA detected some discrepancies on the beneficiaries’ payroll.

Additionally, Mr. Frimpong averred that they found out during payments that some beneficiaries were using the same E-zwich numbers.

This, he added, ballooned the payroll of the YEA.

Mr. Frimpong further revealed that though most beneficiaries of the YEA had vacated their post, they were still earning allowances.

“Some persons also had no appointment letters while some of the letters did not have signature of the CEO. Some letters also had faked signatures of the former CEO while employees on some of the schemes were also found to have been above the YEA’s age requirements”, he disclosed.

He said that after monitoring and evaluation, some staff were declared as redundant, but were still receiving salaries.

Those employees, the acting CEO alleged, were part of the last minute appointments made by the previous government.

He pledged his commitment to implement the recommendations of the audit report which includes a call to strengthen the internal control mechanisms.
