Haruna Iddrisu: JJ Is Hanging NDC Gov't With Public Outbursts

The Member of Parliament for Okaikoi South and Minority Spokesperson on Communications, Nana Akomea, says a major threat to the success of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), is internal strife. He said this in reaction to reports in the Friday, November 20, 2009 edition of The Chronicle newspaper suggesting that the founder of the NDC, ex-President Rawlings is threatening to quit the party. He added however, that should President J.E.A. Mills stand for the 2012 re-election, he would face great challenges from the party, adding that the party has been divided into pro-Rawlings and against-Rawlings factions. Rawlings has stated publicly that take your government and Ill take my party," Nana noted, adding, "now this Team A Team B thing my friend is trying hard to pin on me, I didnt say it, it was Spio-Gabrah who said it and Rawlings is deepening it. He doesnt even classify them into teams, he says they are greedy bastards'." Nana further explained that people in the pro-Rawlings faction, some of who are finding their way into executive positions of the party such as Nana Konadu and Ekwow Spio-Garbrah would make things very difficult for President Mills. Speaking on Metro TV's Good Morning Ghana programme, Nana Akomea predicted that the internal strife within the party is going to be the seed of their destruction. There is a major internal strife in the party and that is going to be the seed of their destruction. Unfortunately, they cant stop it because with the people involved, either they get their way or everything collapses. Thats the danger the NDC faces," he pointed out, adding, "I wish them well. Reacting to these assertions by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP, Communications Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, expressed regret that ex-President Rawlings used such harsh words as greedy bastards in referring to some people in the Mills administration. According to him, Mr Rawlings is hanging the government and the NDC party by way of his public outbursts and is practically giving the party out to dogs. He said President Mills like any other president is not a perfectionist, neither is he God, therefore, there will certainly be problems with his administration. The Minister, however, warned that those in the NDC party who are pulling down the government should note that nobody will profit out of demonizing the government led by President Mills. He also noted that the president will stand for re-elections, noting, his records will ensure that.
